My Thought Process Behind This

I’ve been gone for a long time, but I’m back now! Well… Kinda… ‘Cause I’m here to tell you the PUM series is ending. Since there will be no more episodes after this one, I have to do the thing… I know some people will hate me for this, but I feel like I owe it to the series and to those who have been with me since the first episode. In a nutshell, this episode is going to be about those guilty pleasure songs we all be too afraid to play in a car with our friends. If I were to say one thing with this whole series, it would be, to never be ashamed of your music taste. I want you to own it and just enjoy yourself. I think that’s enough for the introduction, let’s get straight into it!

“Oh, is that Justin Bieber? Are you a 14 y.o. girl?” I love people who talk like this. I’m always like: “Are you really trying to tell me, you don’t ever listen to Justin Bieber or any other similar pop artist?” I usually don’t either, but every once in a while I put on “Beauty and a Beat” and I’m f**cking vibing to that shi*. That Nicki Minaj verse just hits a different part of my brain. I don’t even know what to tell you. What I am not afraid to do tho, is to admit it and own it.

This applies to the whole list, especially to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. I have been listening to that song ever since I can remember. You can try to have a “good music taste” as hard as you want, but you just can’t deny that those songs just have it. Sometimes I maybe want to feel like 14 y.o. growing up in the 2000s, so what?

Shh: That’s the “Wild Child” movie reference, from which I know the song “About You Now” by Sugababes!

I even came to realize that mixing a “guilty pleasure” in my DJ sets every now and then is kinda my thing. That’s something you can definitely expect with my upcoming work, I can’t wait for you to hear what I have in the works. I feel like this lil selection of songs is a shy introduction to the style I am currently drifting toward in my music-making and track selection for sets.

BTS Note: I am writing a note to those wondering what happened or where I’ve been and how things are going to be now. Let’s say I had a very busy summer, a lot of random things happened as well. I was finishing college, so I had to write my bachelor’s thesis and prepare for the final exams. Luckily I successfully passed, but I decided not to continue my studies to focus on the Nickname Not Available project. We’ll see how that goes I guess. For starters, I finished and put out my debut ep, you can check it out on all streaming platforms if u want. I also plan to focus on the blog more in the future, so even though this series is ending, I am quietly preparing other things you can look forward to, so stay tuned!

My Thought Process Behind This

Hi mate! What did you eat for breakfast today? I’m sure it was delicious! I’ve got to start my Monday with fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms, and tomatoes, a classic Australian brekky. Yummy! I have some Australian musical goodies for you in this episode as well. A little breakfast for your ears if you will lol. Enjoy!

I’ve always felt like a bunch of incredible EDM tracks were being made in Australia. Artists like Flume, What So Not, and my favorite Alison Wonderland (who all reached legend status by now) come to mind. The impact these Australian talents had on the international electronic music scene was massive in their prime in the mid-2010s, and they continue to bring fresh air to the game.

There is much more the Aussie scene has to offer tho, and that’s what I would like to concentrate on in this episode. Let’s take a look at some lesser-known artists with distinct sounds, that deserve more recognition for pushing the electronic music envelope further. Artists who are not afraid to step outside the box and bring something new to the table, even at the cost of the music not being well received by the fans.

Stylewise this list is a mess. Sorry lol. The connection here is pretty much just the nationality of the artists. But don’t worry, you came here to discover some dope chunes, and that’s exactly what these Australian artists will give you. A little weird, loud, Australian bass music will always have a special place in my heart, and I think it will win your heart too.

Note: It took me more time than expected to find Australian music producers, the toughest part was finding producers of bass music, which I personally resonate with. I definitely wouldn’t mind finding more of them tho, so if you have any discovery you don’t mind sharing, please do so in the comments! I’d be happy to check it out.

My Thought Process Behind This

Howdy! Where my UK people at? This PUM episode is for y’all and everyone interested in the underground UK music scene. You’ll feel like royalty when listening to it and I’m not even joking. Let’s explore some Grime this week, shall we? Hear the rumble…

Grime is an interesting hybrid of electronic music and hip-hop that came from the underground UK scene. Its start in the early 2000s brought a revolution to the sound of hip-hop of that time. It criticized high fashion and the image mainstream rappers were trying to portray. It pointed out the everyday life of normal people from the suburbs of big UK cities.

It basically came from below to the top and I love when that happens to anything, whether it’s music or any other form of human expression. The rebellious background of Grime opened the door for experimentation and artists and producers were not scared to take that step. Grime MCs often rap over beats influenced by electronic genres including dubstep and garage, and I fw that.

I honestly don’t know if it’s actually related to the music genre grime, but the style of the artwork below is called grime art and I just love it. I think it’s pretty dope how you can completely transform a photo by drawing over it. So whether this is relevant or not, enjoy I guess lol.

My Thought Process Behind This

Wazzup! What’s your favorite candy? What kind of candy would you have to improve your mood on a long Monday? Whichever one is your favorite, I got you a musical treat you will like either way. This week we’re eating marshmallows lol. C’mon and take a bite!

You probably realized who will this episode be dedicated to. You’re right, it’s Marshmello! His recently released collaboration with SVDDEN DEATH “MELLODEATH Tapes Vol. 1” caught my attention, especially the melodic bass highlight “Triumphant”, which gave me instant chills. I have to say that I am pretty excited, that Marshmello is back on the heavy stuff. So, that’s why I want to dedicate this PUM episode to him.

In a reaction video to “Ceremony” by Marshmello and SVDDEN DEATH, Code: Pandorum said that he liked his Trap stuff back in the day, which I couldn’t agree more with. That’s something I wanted to expand on in this episode. I got down to it and tried to do my best to pick tracks similar to the style Trap Marshmello used to do back in the day. I would like to point out, that Sikdope appealed to me the most of the selected artists. The rest of his catalog is defo worth checking out.

The first track is Marshmello’s remix of Where Are Ü Now by Jack Ü, which actually blew him up at the beginning of his career. Firstly, it deserves to be there, and secondly, I just wanted to encourage you to give it a listen again, even if you already know it. It is a bop and you can’t deny that. Let me know in the comments if nostalgia hits you with that one!

Fun fact: Marshmello’s track “Alone” actually got me into producing. When I first saw the music video for it, I knew making music and DJing was what I wanted to do, and here we are!

My Thought Process Behind This

Who was looking forward to another Monday? I hope I wasn’t the only one XD. Together with my friend JUTA Productions, we bring you this PUM episode filled with new music for your playlist. I think JUTA Productions’ Complextro selection will brighten up your day, so without further ado, I give her the floor to tell us more about it.

Heyo! I go by the artist name “JUTA Productions” (even I don’t know what that means tbh) and I produce EDM, mainly something along the lines of Complextro. I took an almost 2-year break just discovering what I’d like to make going forward and made an early release this year and hopefully plan to make at least a few more in the upcoming months, but my work ethic isn’t that great so we’ll see how that pans out. I like to listen to pretty much anything, but recently I’ve grown to really like Complextro as a subgenre since I feel like it’s very underrepresented and I’m aiming to fill the void.

It does have some pretty big names going for it though, such as Madeon and Exyl. That one might be closer to color bass though, not 100% sure on that one tbh. I’ve recently been listening to a lot of different songs around the same genre to find stuff I like and overall I’ve been quite happy with stuff from Exyl, AIKA, Madeon, Creo, Eliminate, and MANY more, which I won’t name here since it’d probably get way too long. Some of those names might be more well-known than others, but I don’t really care about popularity as long as the music is good.

In terms of my song selection, the songs I chose all represent the same type of groove or a similar vibe which I can only hope to properly replicate but am also utterly in love with. Hopefully, y’all like them as much as I do! I actually have a bunch more I’d like to add but I was given a limit of 5 songs, so oh well I, of course, had to do a bit of self-promo too, sorry, that’s just how it is, but I am way too happy with this one to not mention it anywhere I possibly can, so please spread the word too if you like it! I wasn’t that happy with the stuff I’d made previously so that’s why I took the break I mentioned earlier and now I can hopefully continue making bangers such as this one!

My Thought Process Behind This

Hi, how is your Monday going? I hope you’re having another fun day today. If that’s somehow not the case, I made this episode of PUM for you, because I don’t want you to be sad. This one’s going to be pretty turbo, so I hope it will get you in a better mood. This week is the week of Dariacore because nothing is as energetic as this unhinged subgenre of EDM, which is actually exactly what you need from time. Without further ado, prepare your ears, and let’s dive in!

I kept coming across the term Dariacore on the internet, so one day I decided to look it up. It was a perfect example of not knowing you needed something until you found it. I knew that Hyperpop combined with heavy EDM would be neat, but I couldn’t really find anything matching this idea. But that was only until I found out about Dariacore, which is related to both hyperpop and EDM subgenres like Dubstep and Future Bass. It is still not quite what I imagine it could be, but I think we’re getting there.

The selection in this episode is a showcase of the sound I would like to see more of being made. The exciting sound of bass-heavy EDM blended with the beautiful experimental chaos brought by Dariacore is guaranteed to give you a dopamine rush. Someone who stands out from this list is Syzy, they blend Dariacore with Dubstep and it’s f**king beautiful. “Medium Rare Milk” is probably the best example of the sound I was looking for.

Now a little digression lol, as I was learning more about Dariacore and how it started, I thought I might as well watch some of the series called “Daria” which this genre got its name from. So I started watching it and I quite frankly got obsessed. The type of humor is my thing. That’s all from my thoughts, hope you enjoy the list, you can also check out the Daria series next time you have nothing to do. I can only recommend it.

My Thought Process Behind This

For this episode, I decided to team up with a friend of mine I know from Discord. We’re also making some music together, so I figured he would be a great guest on PUM. I asked him to pick some songs he enjoys listening to and he agreed. So now I give him the floor to present the tracks he picked for you. Enjoy!

Hi, I’m the guest on this episode and my artist name is Zoomer. I have been listening to Tearout this week. Idk why, maybe I’m angry at myself that I didn’t release any single this year, anyway, my favorite artist was Oddprophet. I loved his basses that stretch and slap whenever I listen. He is an amazing Tearout sound designer.

I also listened to Subtronics’ new album that recently came out. It’s called TESSERACT and I enjoyed the songs Cottage Core, Amnesia, Reality Distortion, and Parabola Paradox the most. They were well-produced, and they remembered me days when I found out about him. I had been binge-listening to his music when I first discovered him.

Right now you’re probably thinking: “Why is this guy so angry? Who hurt you, bro?” I am fine tho, don’t worry. I also listened to a happier version of Tearout – Color Tearout, which is a new genre that emerged from color bass. It’s so underground there are not a lot of songs rn, but raiwinnn.’s daydream. is one of the examples being cute and angry at the same time.

My Thought Process Behind This

Hi, as you probably know Valentine’s Day is coming up this week, which means this PUM episode is going to be, well, romantic let’s say. Hope you’re having a nice Monday and the rest of the week. Anyway, let’s get our playlists ready for Valentine’s Day!

For me, Valentine’s Day will always be somehow connected to Pop Punk. That’s why I wanted to make this special episode in the genre I would describe as Indie EDM, which I feel is somehow close to Pop Punk. It’s probably what Pop Punk would look like if it went down a more electronic path. San Holo is a perfect example of this since he uses a guitar a lot in his production.

I hope you’ll enjoy this Valentine’s Day, whether you have that special someone or not. If you’re not in a relationship right now, hear me out, I am single as well and I don’t see any problem with that. I tried to make this episode enjoyable both for people in relationships and for people who are currently single. So whether you have that special someone or not, I hope you’ll enjoy this Valentine’s Day and nothing won’t stop you from having a great time.

Surprise huh (to turn the page), sneaked in a Lo-fi remix to the end. I’m sorry to those who don’t like Machine Gun Kelly, but I had to. His album Tickets To My Downfall is too special to me, not to include the song Bloody Valentine in this list. To give you some insight, for me, it was that album I needed in a rough period in my life, the Pop Punk style did it for me.

I would also like to point out the song Stay Forever by Whethan. I didn’t expect to find tunes that would surprise me like this. Resembling the legendary Daft Punk with its spacey feel I found it quite fitting for this special.

My Thought Process Behind This

Hi, hope you’re having a nice Monday, as you know, it’s the playlist update day. This week I wanted to show you some music similar to the new Eliminate album, he dropped last Friday. I liked the sound of it a lot and wanted to find more music like that, and I did. Let’s listen to it together!

On the 2nd of February Eliminate released his album “Get Off The Internet“. I have been so excited to finally listen to this album since Nate posted the album teaser on his YouTube channel. I was on my way home from a party when it came out, so I took advantage of the free time on the bus and started listening to it.

When I hit play, I knew instantly, what the next PUM episode would be all about. I liked the colorful experimental bright melodic sound of “Get Off The Internet”. Despite its experimental feel, it brings the rhythmic party energy, that makes you want to dance. This album basically combines all the genres I enjoy and work with, in my own music production.

After I got home that day, I started looking for music in the same style. It took me quite a long time to find something to find anything close to it. I tried a bunch of things, from AI tools to asking on online forums. The only thing that actually helped me find what I was looking for were Spotify recommendations. I was surprised by how well they worked.

My Thought Process Behind This

Hi, It’s me again, and as usual, I am here to remind you to update your playlist again. This week I decided to explore the hybrid trap planet a little bit. This genre is a fusion of trap and dubstep and if done right it is one of the best sounds out there imo. If you’re into bass-heavy experimental trap you’ll want to check out this one!

Idk how else to start here other than saying, that I’ve been listening to a lot of ISOxo lately. You can probably guess how I came up with the idea for this episode now. I like the raw energy hybrid trap can charge you with. Other hybrid trap artists I listen to pretty frequently are Eliminate and Getter, their sound was also an inspiration for this episode.

ISOxo inspired me to pick the dirty noisy stuff somewhat similar to the track donstopme! Getter inspired me to go after the alien-sounding basses, which are his signature sound. Eliminate represents the more experimental and a little more colorful sound, which is probably one of my favorite.

I have to say, that I like the combination that came out of this. I love that you can both get your anger out and feel something pretty when listening to this list. Ultimately the best EDM tracks are more than just club bangers, they carry an emotion. Those are the kinds of tracks I like to put in my lists…
