Could you even have fun without alcohol?

PEOPLE CAN’T HAVE FUN WITHOUT DRINKING ANYMORE! AND THAT’S NOT OK.

You probably didn’t expect to hear this from a DJ, whose job is essentially to make people come to the venue and buy more drinks there. It would be a dumb thing for me to say something bad about drinking.

Unpopular opinion? Absolutely, but do I stand behind it anyway? 100 %

I wrote this to tell you that you can 100 % have fun without using any substances (the most common of them being alcohol). I once went out with a group of people who didn’t drink at all. And I had the most incredible time at a party ever. Let me tell you about it…

The Story

I live in the Czech Republic, where drinking is considered “normal” from an early age. When I was about 17 years old almost all of my peers were already drinking on a weekly bases. Practically any party you went to involved alcohol.

This one time I went to a birthday party with a group of people who I later found out weren’t drinking. It was one of the best parties I ever went to.

I enjoyed the party I mentioned so much because it was different from the other parties. No one was drinking, yet, we all “still” had fun.

This will maybe piss some people off, but I think the reason why most people drink is, that they got so used to partying drunk, they don’t know how to party sober anymore. Unfortunately, the only “fun” thing a lot of people know is getting wasted on the weekend and doing a bunch of stupid stuff. You get the idea.

The problem I see today is, that people think they wouldn’t have fun if they were not drinking, which is just not true. I wrote this to prove it and to show you there are different ways of partying.

“OK, YOU HAVE A POINT, BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN WITHOUT DRINKING ANYMORE.”

Don’t worry, I have tips for you XD

The Tips

aka “Be sober and still have fun!”

  1. Grab a tasty non-alcoholic drink! So you have something to sip. Your friends who are drinking won’t also keep asking you why you are not drinking.
  2. Talk to people! I have to admit, that talking to new people is much easier when you are drunk a little bit. It will be a little uncomfortable at first, but if you keep doing it anyways you will get used to it. I used to hate talking to others and now I love it.
  3. Pick a good company! Alcohol will not even cross your mind if you’ll be at the right party with the right people.
  4. Try something new! Going to bars and clubs is probably not gonna be as fun as it used to. You can look for some new events and venues. Try a bunch of new places and I am sure you will find something that will suit you.
  5. Use music to set the right atmosphere! Playing the right music makes a bigger difference than you might think. Just play one of my playlists on Spotify and you’ll be fine.
