I FLOODED an Entire City with a Real-Life Spotify Playlist

You are probably like: “What the f*ck is this title?” So let me explain it real quick, then we will get right into it. This is the story behind this post. If you’ve already read a few posts on this blog you probably know that I am all about Spotify playlists. I like making them, designing the covers, updating them, and putting them out there for people to listen to. I love everything about Spotify playlists. (I make special playlists for you on this blog as well.)

One day, I had this random idea to put posters with QR codes linking to my playlist everywhere I can. The more people see it, the better. Really blowing up a Spotify playlist is something I’ve always wanted to do. This could be a great way to kick-start it. Maybe some people will notice it and find it interesting enough to save the playlist in their Spotify library. That’s why I was like: “Let’s do this and see what happens!”

It might not sound that interesting at first glance, but let me show you all the stuff I did. You’ll be stoked. Especially if you’re a Spotify playlist enthusiast like me. I am 99% sure you will find nothing like this anywhere else on the internet.

I don’t think people have random ideas like this and if they do, they will not waste their time doing stuff like this lol. I did it tho. I view it as one of the coolest things I’ve ever done tho. I had such a great time. Some people will probably say this is just a waste of time. You will see it is the other way around, let me explain…

This was the process behind everything mentioned above. Let me take you through it.

The Actual Playlist

First things first, I had to have the actual playlist I will be promoting. I already have a lot of playlists made, but I needed something different this time. I curated a special playlist for this and named it “PLAYLIST PRO DLOUHOU CHVÍLI” which translates to “playlist for the long wait”.

I figured a Czech playlist with songs people in the Czech Republic listen to, has the best chance of getting the attention of people. That’s exactly what I did. I did this whole thing in the Czech Republic because I live there. (For those who are a little bit confused.)

Here is the playlist:

I made a cover for this playlist before, but I updated it with a fresh cover. I didn’t want it to just look “OK”. I wanted it to be a slap. Then I came up with a new cover. It looks sick, like something people will like to see and are more likely to listen to.

Yes, that’s Hailey and Justin Bieber wearing headphones. It fits the cover perfectly doesn’t it?

QR Code

Now we have the playlist, but the process did barely even start. We still have a lot of things to do. The second thing is creating a QR code. It was not as easy as you may think. I wanted the Spotify logo to be in the middle of the code. That’s something you can’t do nicely with a normal QR code generator.

I found one that was able to do it, but I didn’t realize it has a 14-day trial. When the trial ended, the code stopped working. I had to do the whole thing again and change the code. I used just a simple generator and I was pretty happy with the result. Luckily it worked properly this time.

Poster Design

I opened Gimp and designed a poster with the QR code I generated earlier. I wanted to keep it simple. I just added some text telling people what it is, about the playlist, etc. Then it was time to print it. I also put some amount of the posters in euro foil, so they don’t get wet outside. Alright, that’s pretty much everything we had to prepare. We’re ready to go out and put the posters all over the city!

It’s Everywhere!

I threw the posters in my bag, bought some nails and tape, and went for it. I put the posters everywhere I could. To be honest I was a little scared someone will start complaining about it. Strange enough no one said a thing.

For this to work, the posters have to be somewhere where people will, firstly, see them and secondly, won’t be able to do much. To put it simply, I wanted the posters on places where people will be waiting or something (a bus, a friend, near a store). That way they will likely be bored enough to pay attention to the poster.

Out of all the places, the best for this are restrooms, inside buses (trains), and at bus stops. I managed to place one poster on a bus stop and I take it as a success. It is right in front of a school, so many people are walking by.

I will probably put a few more posters on the streets, but it is in fact done. Finally! Although I had fun doing this, it took me quite some time to finally get to this idea. It finally happened and I am so content. Now that my playlist is everywhere I just have to wait if someone will find it good enough. Will see.

Since I had a great time bringing this idea to life I decided to stick to it. I am already working on something in this style. (This time something with stickers.) Stick around to see how will it turn out. I myself am excited about where this will take me…

Edit: The thing with stickers I’ve been working on is out!
